A Vision for Our Community Center
Our goal is to revitalize the La Union Community Center for the benefit of its residents while promoting the historical and cultural significance of the building and the Townsite of La Union. Through this effort, the Townsite of La Union aims to share information and updates about the project with residents, as well as potential corporate and private donors. By raising awareness of the project and its importance to the community, we hope to inspire engagement, support, and participation.

About the Project
We’re glad you stopped by and took the time to learn about this effort.
The Townsite of La Union and La Union Helping Hands are working diligently to revitalize the La Union Community Center for current and future residents. Our goal is to restore this important space while preserving its original structure and unique identity.
A thriving community center strengthens families and brings people together. This building is deeply cherished by residents because it represents our shared identity, history, and character. For generations, it has been a gathering place, and we believe it deserves renewed life.
One of our long-term goals is to designate the La Union Community Center as a historical site, recognizing its significance to the history of the Southwest and ensuring it is preserved for future generations.
Proposed Use of the Building
Once restored, the La Union Community Center will serve as a flexible, welcoming space for a wide range of community needs, including:
- A place for residents to socialize, stay active, and maintain strong social connections
- Meeting space for business gatherings, health or legal speakers, and food distribution programs
- Technology learning opportunities for small groups, supporting personal or small business development
- Laptops and internet access would be provided through grants or private funding
- Educational grants, including Microsoft Grants, would be pursued
- After-school tutoring programs, allowing residents to share their expertise with local students and foster intergenerational connections
- A regular storytelling hour, “As I Remember,” where residents can share childhood experiences and preserve community memories
- Displays of historical photos, stories, and a timeline highlighting La Union’s first settlers and cultural heritage
- Recreational programs such as games, crafts, painting, reading, low-impact exercise, dancing, and music
- Space for community events, social services, and special programs such as vaccination clinics and educational talks
- Emergency community use during events such as flooding, fires, or high winds
